Penny Mordaunt attacks Tory 'mudslinging'

The five remaining Tory leadership candidates have battled it out in their first hustings. During the event, Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Kemi Badenoch, Penny Mordaunt and Tom Tugendhat gave statements and answered questions.

During the event Liz Truss vowed to axe the planned corporation tax hike from 19 to 25% next year as she made a multibillion-pound pitch for the Tory leadership.

The Foreign Secretary also used the digital debate on Friday to commit to a temporary moratorium on the green energy levy, costing around £5 billion per year.

Penny Mordaunt also called for a leadership campaign without 'mudslinging' after she faced criticism from rival camps.
