fib Bulletin 91 Floating Concrete Structures – Tor Ole Olsen

fib Bulletin No. 91 Floating Concrete Structures is available for purchase on https://www.fib-international.org/publications/fib-bulletins/floating-concrete-structures-pdf-detail.html

The future will see an increased use of the sea, by man. Important reasons are, among others, demography, the need for food, and rising sea level.
Fortunately, well-designed and well-built concrete structures handle the sea very well. Structures may be designed for a life of several hundred years.
Floating concrete structures is not novel. As early as 1848 Lambot built a small boat of concrete. Since then, a number of marine structures have been built.
In the last 50 years, a lot of experience has been gained from the design and construction of offshore platforms for the oil and gas industry. Many of these are not permanently floating but was afloat during construction.
The fib has recognised the great potential of floating concrete structures and has taken the initiative to write a state-of-the-art report on the subject. It is hoped that the report will stimulate the creative use of a well-suited material, to the best for the users and the industry. Hopefully, also the report will give examples that may be helpful, with a lot of references.
