Mud Sweat & Beers, EXPERT Cat (XC Race) 2021

Mud, Sweat & Beers 300 race was held in Traverse City, MI on May 1, 2021. Due to COVID restrictions the race was capped at the first 300 entries. Because of the limit on racers they did away with age groups and made each category open to all ages. I raced the Expert category (57 total participants) and we were sent off in 3 different waves of about 20 racers. I was in the second wave of three. It was a cold and very windy morning and I was underdressed. By the time I got to the starting line I was a bit confused on where my starting group was. I found it a few minutes before and weaseled my way into about the mid pack, which turned out horrible as the start was a mess and I had to weave my way through many riders. Eventually I made my way to the front group of my wave. I've never raced or ridden this course so I was going in completely blind, which was a disadvantage for sure.

First race of the year and a good warmup to the race season after a long COVID race break. I made plenty of tactical mistakes but put in a good effort to finish 11th out of 57 and 3rd place in my wave 2.
