Hanson Hills 50, Open Cat. (XC Marathon Race) - 2021

Hanson Hills 50 was a 50 mile race that was held in Grayling, MI on May 29, 2021. This was Open Category with Elite/Pro, Expert, Sport and Beginner together in one category separated by 10 year age groups (I was in the 40-49 age group). There were 20 racers in my age group and all age groups were sent out in a mass neutral start. After about 1.5 miles we were cut loose and the race began. I made the attempt to stay with the front group and after about 30 minutes I blew up. The elite guys smoked me and I made the mistake of hanging on too long. It took me about an hour to recover and I paid the price for the remainder of the race.

This was my first 50 mile race and I paced it horribly. That being said, I ended up finishing 5th (out of 20) and continue to make progress this race calendar.
