“Faith Journeys with God in the Land” Part 12

Take a walk with Dr. John on the shoreline of the Dead Sea. Filmed at a public beach here at the lowest place on earth, the Dead Sea used to have an “inflow” of water from the Jordan River as it flowed southward from the Sea of Galilee 65 miles to the north. However, for a few reasons today, no longer does water make it into the Dead Sea at all. This means the level of the Dead Sea is shrinking in size about two-three feet each year. However, the Dead Sea does not have an “outflow” either. This is one reason why the salt and mineral content of the water is little over 30% today. This is why the Dead Sea is, let’s say, dead! Nothing lives in it!

In regard to our journey of faith walk with God, this teaching-devotional reminds us of how each of us not only need a constant spiritual “inflow” into our lives, but also an “outflow.” Our lives need the inflow of God’s direction, guidance, and strength. Our lives need to be fed and nourished by God’s Word as we learn what is required to walk a life of faith. But the outflow of God through our lives needs to happen too. This “outflow” can come in the form of sharing our faith both through words and actions. Allowing God’s goodness and grace to outflow through us is what keeps us from becoming stagnant in our spirit. Thus, we strive to not to be like the Dead Sea but rather like living water as God flows in and through us!
