Elena suddenly finds herself on the island of Vido during one of the darkest moments in Serbian history. Surrounded by starving and wounded soldiers after the Albanian Golgotha, she witnesses the suffering that turned the small island into what survivors called — the Island of Death.

Among the dying soldiers, Elena hears the story of Čeda Kačamak, one of the many young men trying to survive unimaginable conditions far from home.
