Carla Fracci and James Urbain in 'La Péri' (1843)

This film records a performance by Carla Fracci and James Urbain of 'La Péri' (1843).

The Romantic era ballet was based on a libretto by Théophile Gautier, with choreography set by Jean Coralli to music by Friedrich Burgmuller.

The theme of the work is a man's search for immortality and encounter with a mythological Peri, or Flower of Immortality.

The premier of the ballet was in Paris on July 17, 1843, at the Académie Royale de Musique. In the cast were Carlotta Grisi, Lucien Petipa, J. B. Barret, Jean Coralli and Delphine Marquet.
