The German conductor, choirmaster, virtuoso organist and harpsichordist Karl Richter (1926–1981) was a genius ahead of his time. For this recording (1965), regarded by many (including myself) as definitive, he chose one of the greatest trumpet players of all time, the French Maurice André (1933-2012).

Written by the German composer, arranger, virtuoso organist, harpsichordist, choirmaster and conductor Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), the 'Christmas Oratorio' is a masterpiece that tells the story of the birth of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
