WEANING CATTLE & WHAT??!!
_______
Dear viewer: Today’s video is all about weaning calves - what that actually means and what ranchers do when we “wean” cattle. You’re also lucky enough to get to finally meet our part time hired hand Don. He’s 82 and just a salt of the earth kind of guy. He’s a great representation of the amazing people who make up the community of Agriculture; hard working, humble and kind. Don loves working on our ranch, being around cattle and spending time with our family. His dad actually worked for Luke’s grandpa – which I think is just so neat. The video starts out with the three of us rounding up cattle on corn stalks. Husband (Luke) is on horseback and Don, Jaks and I are in pick up. While Luke drives the cattle to nearby corrals, Don and I drive around and check the pasture to make sure we got all the cows and calves – don’t want to leave any behind. After that we had over to the corrals and husband and I sort the cattle. This means we put the mamas in one pen and the grown calves in another. Sometimes sorting goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. Guess you’ll just have to watch to find out how this one went. As always, thanks for tagging along. So grateful for you all.
Until next time,
The Kovariks.

Hi Friends. We're the Kovarik's - a family of four ranching in central Nebraska. We're a first generation ranch sourcing our knowledge and work ethic from our 5th generation roots. Most days are a simple mess of family moments we've collected out in pasture on horseback or bouncing around in some dusty ranch trunk or tractor, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Luke’s the main rancher around here so we try and do what he tells us, but truth be told, were not always listening. Natalie is one hell of a #ranchwife who holds the home and acres together, and Tad (14) and Jaks (18 mos) are our two wild cowboys who depending on the day fluctuate between “literally no help” and “wow you were helpful I think we’ll keep you”. At the end of the day we’re just a typical rural American family living the rural American dream. So sit back, hang out and join us as we spend our days ranching & family-ing.
