The Importance of Good Cane and O&M Skills (even if you plan on getting a guide dog)
In today's video I talk about why cane and O&M skills matter, whether you plan on getting a guide dog or not. Being able to navigate the world independently will make you safer, more confident, and improve your ability to make friends. As a blind kid I was initially afraid to use my cane because it made me feel different and weird, but as I got older I learned that in addition to being necessary for my safety, my cane could also be a symbol of strength and independence. If you are feeling uncomfortable about using your cane, hopefully this video can help you see the benefits of a cane all around.
