How I train my Guide Dog to Target Objects

In today's video I show you how I train my guide dog to target objects. I use the clicker to teach my dog to find specific objects / locations like trash cans, pedestrian walk buttons, chairs, etc. Hopefully this video can give you a little glimpse into what guide dog training is like and possibly even help you train your dog to help you find objects.

If your dog is not familiar with clicker training, first you will have to teach your dog what the clicker means. Here is a video on how to do that: https://youtu.be/LE4kvEJUWGs IMPORTANT NOTE- this video mentions using a kissy noise to charge the clicker. I would NOT recommend doing that for a service dog because people in public will use the kissy noise to try to distract your dog. I never use this noise when interacting with my service dog so the noise does not have meaning to him, which makes it less distracting when strangers in public use this noise to try to distract him. Otherwise, I think this video gives good tips for how to charge the clicker.
