Wild FALLOW DEER - Tracking & Stalking huge Buck

Sometimes the weather conditions can play a massive part in helping or indeed hindering when tracking deer. Most important is to stay down-wind of where you suspect they might be or may be heading to at some point.
There's a few helpful tips below - sometimes you really need luck on your side - but sometimes experience, bushcraft and tracking skills can lead you to a perfect spot to be well camouflaged and able to capture what you see. This was the case with these 3 healthy Fallow Deer.

They were blissfully unaware of anyone being anywhere near them and that was no fluke. They are all settled down for their rest and obviously feel no threat from anywhere. The Doe's are still chewing with eyes closing and the Handsome Buck (the male with Antlers) is well settled and ready to get his head down, after checking all around for total safety.

Tips:

If you find piles of 💩 droppings 💩 they may smell or even glisten if urine has coated it too. Be vigilant as you may be within sight of the deer and vice versa. 👀
If not very fresh, it is worthwhile trailing it and looking for prints and tracks, and any tracks which are deeper or skidded, noting the direction.
Keep aware of the better places of cover nearby if you do see any movement in the distance 👀 keeping with a treeline or in shadow will help.

Never hurry and occasionally pause and listen, just as a deer will.

The wind (in the right direction - straight at you is perfect) and rain are a great cover for noise and to mask your smell, which they easily pick up from 100's of metres away.
So don't be put off by changing weather conditions, as they are a challenge. Hopefully, when you are in a good position the weather may improve. (again, you may need the luck too)
