Ojitos Traidores

Definitely, America was conquered by the Spaniards twice...the first time, according to history, was in the 16th century, but the second was in the middle of the 20th century when Miguel Herrero and Carmelita Vazquez captured the hearts of the American Public.

Two authentic Spanish productions brought them to this conquest of the New World, "A Night in Spain" and "Cabalgata". For a long time these shows were presented all over Latin America with long runs in Havana, Cuba; Caracas, Venezuela and all the Central American countries. These performances were crowned by an appearance of Miguel Herrero and Carmelita Vazquez and members of the company, on the Ed Sullivan Show.

From two stars, a third star is created who can be recognized as the third great conqueror...Jose Miguel, the ten year old son of Miguel and Carmelita is most certainly the culmination of his parent's talents in one dimunutive package. This tiny jack-of-the-trade is already exhibiting his hand at choreography and all the components of showmanship. His appearance on stage is an almost electric occasion and he is masterful!

Miguel Herrero, a singer and dancer, has added to his repertoire a selection of American songs and sings them as homage to the American public. And Carmelita Vazquez? No, she does not sing...but the crackling flashing sound of the "taconeo" performed by her magic feet let you know that this excellent flamenco dancer is the heart and soul of the accompaniment.

These three can now be applauded at the Flamenco Supper Club no the 79th St. Causeway in Miami, Florida...tomorrow, who knows? For a group with talent such as this, the world has no frontiers.
Circa: 1968
