Bioenergetic Fitness #1 - Shaolin Calisthenics & Stretching - Qigong, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Power Yoga

This is my first of this new series, and my first video in a while with music, so let me know what you think in the comments!

Feeling lethargic, depressed, or stuck indoors during the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID 19)? Want to lose weight, or prevent gaining weight? Or simply emerge from your COVID-19 outbreak "staycation" fitter, happier, and healthier? In this Bioenergetic workout we use easy to learn movements from Shaolin Kung Fu, Power Yoga, and Chi Kung (Qigong or Qi Gong) to build strength, power, flexibility, mobility, calm, and focus. We will be burning calories, raising metabolism, and working every part of the body, including the mind. The practice ends with a moving guided meditation to bring you into the present moment, cultivating chi and powerful insights with some calming meditation music in the background.

Qigong comes from China (and Traditional Chinese Medicine. ie/ acupuncture or accupuncture) and is often called the Mother of Tai Chi and uses similar slow, fluid motions to develop one's life force energy, release stress, and heal chronic illness naturally. The effect is a clearing, energy healing experience that produces a clear mind and healthy body. It doesn't require any magical beliefs in goddesses, tarot cards, or crystals, it just involves slowing down brain waves through slow movement and breathing, bringing mind and body together to generate a healing response. This qigong introduction is a meditation in motion to go alongside the workout (yin and yang, if you will).

We use some strength and stretching techniques from Power Yoga (from Vinyasa Yoga and Hatha Yoga) and functional fitness as well as learning shadowboxing kicks and punches for power and cardiovascular endurance. These techniques won't get you ready for fighting MMA or Jujutsu in the UFC overnight, but they will get you started on a path towards overall fitness, and they are super fun too!

The yoga in this one is brief, so leave your Lululemon pants at home (not that you can leave your home right now) and turn up the heat in your house if you prefer hot yoga! If the beaches are closed in your area due to social distancing (if you have a beach to social distance from) then enjoy the nice scenery in this one! All the more reason to stay at home and help flatten the curve!
