Fun Parrot Play Gyms and Tree Stand Perches -- Getting Your Bird Out of Cage
Does your parrot need a play gym? What kind of play gyms are there? How big should your play gym be? How will your parrot use the gym--how much activity can you expect? Do you need to spend a lot on a gym? See actual footage of parrots using all size gyms--from small perches and sandboxes--to home-made ceiling-height gyms.
We have learned that parrots need to come out of the cage for their sanity. Parrots are flock creatures, so it makes them happier and much better socialized with humans. Veterinarians are now advising that our birds need to come out for their health, too. Parrots should be getting exercise--just like other animals.
The best way to exercise your bird is to build an aviary, so your bird gets sunlight along with a large area to move and play.
However, if you don't have the room or the money for an aviary, or you live in a place where you cannot have one... an indoor parrot play gym is one of the best ways to give your bird some good quality out-of-cage exercise.
In addition to exercise, a play gym gives parrots a place to hang out and be entertained--even flighted birds. It keeps them busy and keeps that beak out of trouble ;)
And since watching parrots play is a lot of the fun for humans, a play gym is just as cool for us as it is for our birds.

because someone has already asked...
yes, one of the large gyms we made ourselves for maybe 10 dollars in parts--it's made of all natural wood from the tree trimming on our grounds, and we put it on a formica base. the "trunk" and main cross-bar are stripped crab apple parts.
the other trees were reasonably low-cost, ready-made bases for wild bird trees that we built up over time.
NOTE--woods are non-toxic species, and we cleaned any wood with 20 percent chlorine in water, then rinsed and scrubbed with vinegar with a good water rinse, then dried in the sun to kill bacteria.
here is the link to our other video that shows how we got those lower-cost play gyms that we didn't have to make from scratch...
