Peri-Implantitis (Infected Dental Implant Treatment Options)
Dr. Amar Katranji Goes Into Detail About Peri-Implantitis Causes and What Treatment Options We Have.
Infected Dental Implants are becoming more and more of an issue that we see in our office every day. Peri-Implantitis is becoming such a widespread issue mainly because lot's of people seek out options to get the best dental implants at the lowest cost. What they do not realize is unless a dental implant is placed properly by a highly trained professional, it has higher chance of getting infected. Especially if the patient does not take good care of it. In short, you get what you pay for!
Peri implant disease can cause destruction of the soft tissue and the bone surrounding a dental implant to the point where the implant has to be lost.
With our techniques, we try to save what bone we can so that the implant can be restored and the patient does not have to go through the entire process of bone grafting and dental implant placement a second time for the same tooth.
Implant disease can cause you a lot of pain and discomfort. The infection can also spread very quickly because a dental implant does not have the same defense mechanisms that a natural tooth does. This means that the infection can spread through the gum at a much faster rate and cause you to have an implant infection.
The infected area will start as peri-implant mucositis. If we can catch the problem at this stage it is much more easily treatable than the more advanced stage of Peri-implantitis. This is why it is IMPERATIVE that you come in to see your doctor as soon as you notice the problem before it has a chance to progress into a more sever condition.
If you are experiencing any dental implant pain we would be more than happy to take a look in your mouth and give you some options for treatment.
In our next video Dr. Nemeth will discuss options for how we use a laser to treat Implant disease using a technique called LAPIP.
