What's Best for Gum Disease Treatment? Surgery V.S. Laser

What is the best way to treat gum disease? With a scalpel or a laser?

Well, in the past Dr. Joseph Nemeth exclusively used traditional gum disease treatment which involved cutting away infected gum tissue. However, since the advent of laser dentistry, there are much safer and more comfortable ways to cure gum disease.

Gum disease treatment is easier and less invasive than ever! Many patients claim that they can return to work the very next day.

Most dentists still will cut away gum tissue to reduce the gum pockets to eliminate the oral infection. This can cause gaps between the teeth and also lead to tooth sensitivity.

On top of being very painful, traditional gum disease treatment might not be particularly effective in stopping periodontal disease.

Today, we start by taking a sample from underneath the gums of every patient that comes into our office. We want to see if there are parasites and bacteria that are associated with periodontitis and bone loss.

We diagnose gum disease with our microscope and we treat periodontitis with a laser. We then teach our patients how to take care of their oral health so that the periodontal disease never comes back.

I believe that LANAP and the laser procedure is the best and only way to treat gum disease. Often we will actually have bone grow back after using the dental laser.

If you have an infection in your gums, you can't be healthy!

Remember, get your mouth healthy. If you have a healthy mouth, you'll definitely have a healthier body.
