The reason behind changing the name from Laxman Prasad Srivastava to Laxman Shahabadi was Dr. Rajendra Prasad who said that since you are a resident of Shahabad, keep it as Shahabadi and it became Laxman Shahabadi.

Laxman Prasad Srivastava alias Jhunan, who was interested in music since childhood, was also born in a family where the goddess of music was already present. His father Ramlala Prasad was a skilled sitar player. Laxman Shahabadi was fond of music since childhood. Was fond of learning and writing. He received formal education in music from Guru Jangli Mallik. At that time, only a select few people learned classical music. During school and college days, he used to participate in cultural events and also used to sing songs written by him. In his childhood, he got an atmosphere of classical music at home and due to living in Bhojpur, Music and songs were embedded in the folk life there. He allowed the artist within him to flourish. There was no musical instrument in which he did not have command. He was also very interested in playing harmonium, tabla and sitar. For about 13-14 years, he kept doing stage shows in various events. His friends say about him that he was a very sensitive and emotional person. And giving love and respect to people was included in his culture and this was the reason why he Soon became popular among the people. The songs written by him started becoming popular in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata and Mumbai.
