Home made fence post driver

Drop weight fence post driver does not require digging hole and setting in concrete. Simply plumb the driver and post and lift the weight and drop similar to using a hammer to drive a nail into wood.

First test posts approx 5" diameter wood posts were driven in about 1 minute each (approx 6-8 drop cycles). No pilot holes and no taper cut on bottom of posts. Soil was mixed clay/dirt with no sandstone or rock.

350 pound sliding weight dropped approx 4 feet to pound a fence post into the ground.
