Vinita Shukla, around 50 years old, suddenly collapsed at her home on 22 February 2026. Her family took her first to a government hospital in Pilibhit and later to a private hospital in Bareilly because her condition was critical. Doctors placed her on ventilator support, but after a few days they told the family that her condition was extremely serious and that chances of recovery were very low. Her husband then decided to take her back home.

While bringing her home in an ambulance on 24 February, the vehicle hit a large pothole on National Highway-74 near Hafizganj. According to her husband, the sudden jolt shook the ambulance and shortly afterward he noticed that she started breathing again. He immediately called relatives and told them to stop preparing for her funeral. The family then rushed her to another hospital in Pilibhit where doctors admitted her for treatment.

After about 12 days of treatment, Vinita Shukla gradually recovered and became conscious. She was later able to speak with her family and was discharged from the hospital.

However, doctors said that the pothole itself did not actually “bring her back to life.” Medical experts believe her condition may have been caused by neurotoxin poisoning from a snake or insect bite, which can temporarily paralyse the body and make a person appear almost brain-dead. With proper treatment, such patients can recover.

So the incident became famous because many people called it a “pothole revival miracle,” but doctors explained that it was more likely a medical misdiagnosis and recovery after treatment, not the pothole itself that revived her.
