Girl of Now Shine and Girl of Now Elie Saab Fragrance Review

Are you looking for a new addictive fragrance this summer? The new Girl of Now Shine from Elie Saab could be the nutty fragrance you are looking for!

Two fragrances from Elie Saab, the Girl of Now and the new Girl of Now Shine. The original Girl of Now was created by Dominique Ropion and Sophie Labbe in 2017 and both have come together again to create the new Girl of Now Shine.

The Girl of Now Shine is classed as an Oriental Floral but from the first spray, you definitely get the idea that it's addictive and the gourmand notes have the upper hand.

The top notes have a lot of fruits but initially, when I smell it I'm not getting a lot of the fruit. But in those top notes is mandarin, pear and pineapple. However, the most noticeable essences on the first spray are the pistachio from the top notes and the bitter almonds from the heart notes. It's nuts!

As the fragrance begins to settle the heart notes are making themselves known. To begin with the bitter almonds, but then the very feminine florals of orange blossom, then you have ylang-ylang and jasmine appear.

So far, you've got those lightly toasted nuts, which sounds bizarre, with the florals and fruit. It is not a fruity fragrance, the fruits seem to be there to soften the fragrance.

In the base notes, we have the idea of addiction again with vanilla but then there are iris and patchouli, the iris giving the fragrance a woodsy note.

The Girl of Now Shine would appeal to those that like some of the oriental sweet gourmand fragrances such as the Mon by Guerlain or Bonbon by Viktor and Rolf or the YSL Opium or Black Opium, fragrances with sweet edible qualities.

So how does the Girl of Now Shine compare to the original Girl of Now launched in 2017?

Created again by Dominique Ropion and Sophie Labbe the original Girl of Now, from the first spray, has more impact and projection. Similar top notes to the Girl of Now Shine, with mandarin orange, pear and pistachio, but the original Girl of Now is not so 'nutty' for want of a better word.

The heart notes of the Original Girl of Now are just slightly different. So there is the orange blossom as in the Shine, but then you have magnolia and almond instead of the 'bitter almond' of the Shine. I think it's the lack of the bitterness in the original fragrance that makes it altogether softer, warmer, more rounded with a sense of amber to it. As it begins to dry down you get a sense of depth to the original fragrance.

That sense of depth is enhanced by the base notes of patchouli, cashmeran, almond milk and tonka bean. The tonka bean makes the fragrance deeper, heady and longer lasting.

Between the original Girl of Now and the Girl of Now Shine, I feel that the original is ultimately more wearable and longer lasting. Comparing the fragrances on my skin the Girl of Now Shine smells 'cardboardy', like wet cardboard which I think is down to the bitterness of the bitter almond in the notes. The original Girl of Now fragrance smells warmer on my skin, definitely addictive.

The original Girl of Now I feel would appeal to those that like the gourmandy sweet oriental fragrances I mentioned earlier, such as the Bonbon and Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf or the Mademoiselle Intense by Chanel which shares those patchouli amber notes in the Girl of Now by Elie Saab.
