Hello everyone, my name is Tim and I am one of the product specialists here at SpyCentre Security. Thee Spy Gear Superstore. And I'm here to talk to you guys about Nanny Cameras.

What is a nanny camera? Contrary to it's name Nanny Cameras are used for much more than just keeping an eye on the babysitter. They are used in any capacity that requires a camera to be hidden in an environment to record what is happening. This can be in a nursing home to make sure mom or dad is being cared for, in a business to see who is stealing, taking something or even just in some place that they shouldn't be. Nanny cameras, or Hidden Cameras as they are often called are designed to sit an environment and record without drawing any attention to themselves.

A common question we get is how to choose a Hidden Camera. By far the most important thing is for it to blend in with its surroundings. Which would make aesthetics at the top of the list. In other words; what the camera is disguised as. Other than that you have Battery Operated vs Plugged into the wall for constant power. How long the device can store video for, the resolution that the video is being captured in, the field of view that the camera captures and lastly time & date stamping along with things like Night Vision and remote view via WiFi

Let's start with Aesthetics, choosing an item that blends in with the room is crucial in your success. To help sell the realism, all of our Hidden Cameras function as their original device. Meaning; the clocks work as clocks, the AC adapter works to charge your smartphone and so on. So pick a device that you would actually use, or pick to use with your everyday normal life, as if it didn't have a camera hidden inside.

An extremely useful feature that all of our Hidden Cameras have is Motion Activation. Which means that you can leave this item in your home or business and the camera will take care of the rest by automatically starting a recording when it sees movement. And don't worry, there is NEVER any beeping, buzzing vibrating or flashing lights to give the camera away.

Most devices on the market in the hidden camera section do plug into the wall for constant power. And honestly, unless it absolutely needs to be battery powered I would recommend leaving it plugged in. If you do need a mobile, battery powered unit make sure you review the product page for that product on our website to see how long it would last on battery powered.

Next up is Archive time, this means how long the video will store before needing to be cleared. You will see on our website examples of how long it would store if you had a particular sized card so make sure to review that before getting an SD card. Thankfully our recorders utilize something called Loop recording which allows the device to automatically delete just the oldest file and continue recording.

This drastically cuts down on maintenance because you do not need to manually delete the files. This setting works for most people, if you need to archive for a long time or log all of the video for a certain amount of time I would recommend two SD cards so you can hot swap them as you need.

Our next topic is resolution. If you aren't familiar with what this is all it means is how large of an image it's being captured. So if you hear 1080P, what that actually means is a resolution of 1920x1080, which is one thousand nine hundred and twenty pixels tall and one thousand eighty pixels wide. Why this is important is because the larger of a picture that's being captured the more detail it's able to display.

So in other words, the larger that number the clearer the image. Almost all of our recorders are 1080P currently, which is very good. But that's good to know if you are comparing us to another company. The other thing to look out for is “F-P-S” or Frames Per Second. This represents how often the camera is capturing those images. So if you see a camera that does 1080P at 30FPS that means it's capturing 30 images per second at 1080P, the more FPS a camera captures the smoother the video playback will be. For most users anywhere from 15-25 FPS is perfectly fine.

Field of view is an important thing to consider when placing a camera. Because if it doesn't get a wide enough angle to capture the entire area or at least the area you need to see than it doesn't do you any good. The field of view on cameras represents how wide of a shot the camera captures. This is represented in Degrees. These two cameras are actually right on top of each other and you can see how much more you can see versus the other. All of our cameras have their Field of Views listed on their product page. If you are a more visual person than take a look at the product video, it will give you a really good idea.
