The idea for this song started when I was restringing one of my guitars. In the process of restringing, the strings usually get pretty random tension. I was just fooling around in the middle of the process, hitting the three top strings. The notes sounded really powerful and inspiring to me. Maybe it was just because I didn't know what kind of chord it ended up being. Therefore, I couldn't label it. Labels tends to limit what is, which could explain why it sounded powerful to me. Since I wasn't able to label it, there was no thought involved. I wrote down the notes and started playing with the chord which represented a D m7 (the first chord in the song) on my Martin 000-15m. After that, I randomly played the A# and Am chords on the three top strings (E, A, D). I think those chords are in a new key signature. Anyway, I really liked how it sounded on the Martin 000-15m. All up until this point, the guitar is stereo dubbled. The second guitar was recorded with the mics gain turned way up and with the guitar far away from the mics. I think that gave a nice effect. At this point, I really liked the sound of strumming the acoustic guitar hard. It gave a nice texture and at this point, it was in greater focus to me than the actual melody. To me, it was crucial to only have one (stereo doubled) guitar part at this point, since it makes it possible to focus on the subtle sound effect of strumming the guitar hard.

After that, I started playing notes that interested me. I added several guitars over a period of several evenings, just exploring and having fun. I like the contrast it had between the previous guitar part.

It ended up being relatively simple, which I like since it really shows the sound of the Martin 000-15m.
