Basic Techniques on Collecting Leaves and Seeds from Tall Trees: Video Tutorial Series (1 of 3)

Collecting leaves or seeds from tall trees is a difficult task that many plant physiologists, ecologists, geneticists, and forest managers encounter repeatedly. Here, we present the first of three video tutorials for a simple and effective method to collect seeds and leaves from tall trees. This tutorial is a basic overview of the method. Note from 2024: The far superior way to tie the throwline onto the bean bag is via a loop made by a bowline. The loop then goes through the ring of the bean bag, around the bean bag, and then pull tight. That way there's actually no need to tie or un-tie the throwline off your bag when you regularly removing the bag to prevent it getting stuck in the canopy (e.g. if you have to reshoot).
