Choose Palmies for Brisbane's Olympic mascot!!
MAKE THE PALM COCKATOO BRISBANE’S MASCOT FOR THE 2032 OLYMPICS!
The city of Brisbane, Australia has been chosen to host the Olympic Games in 2032. Now, it’s time for the people to choose a mascot for the Games. This mascot should symbolise all the good things that the Olympics and Queensland stands for and bring good luck to the Brisbane Games. We propose that the top choice is the Palm Cockatoo!
The ‘Rockatoo’
The Palm Cockatoo (Probosciger aterrimus) is Australia’s largest cockatoo, with a magnificent black crest and rich red cheeks. In Australia, they only live in far north Queensland. Not only are they stunningly beautiful, they’re smart as well. Palm Cockatoos are the rockstars of the bird world because they make a drumbeat with a drumstick! Males select a tree branch from which to fashion into a drumstick tool that they then bang on a branch or a tree hollow to create an individualistic drumbeat! That’s why some people call them the ‘Rockatoo’!
Sharing the Olympic Spirit
Palm Cockatoos live in three countries: Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia (Irian Jaya province). Choosing the Palmy as the Games mascot would be a celebration of the cultural importance of this species to all three countries and a way to involve our nearest neighbours in this unifying international sporting event. Sharing and uniting- that’s what the Olympics is all about.
An Endangered species
There’s another good reason to choose Palmies as the Games mascot. Palm Cockatoos are Endangered and moving ever closer to extinction. When the world knows how special the unique ‘Rockatoo’ is, it will galvanise funding and support from governments and non-profit organizations to provide the support they need to save this incredible bird for future generations to enjoy.

The Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, noted that the people will choose the Games mascot. Now is the time for bird lovers and parrot lovers all over Queensland, Australia, and the rest of the world to like/share this page to send a cheerful Palmy whistle to the Premier asking her and the Olympics Committee to choose the Palm Cockatoo for the mascot for the Brisbane Olympics 2032. The more likes/shares we get, the better chance we have of getting the Palmy as the mascot. Rock on, Palmies, and let the Games begin!
