On Sunday, April 7, 2024, Black Lives Against Imperialism held a Pro-Palestine protest in front of the Kings Theater in Flatbush, Brooklyn; Lenapehoking (New York City), to make it loud and clear that zionist Hanan Ben Ari is NOT welcome in Flatbush.

Letter from Black Lives Against Imperialism:

“March 29, 2024

To the Executive Staff and Board Members of the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG):

We, as residents of Flatbush — a neighborhood comprised predominantly of Black Caribbean migrants, along with other migrants of color from Latin America, Yemen, Palestine, Bangladesh, Ghana, Nigeria, and more — are outraged that The Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) continues to book divisive, racist, Zionist performers at The Kings Theatre. As a multi-national community of people, most of whose homelands have been subject to the violent legacies of British, French, and American imperialism, we demand that you cancel Ben Ari’s event on April 7th, 2024 from your schedule. We also demand that ATG cease and desist from platforming Zionist performers on Kings Theatre’s stage.

When the Kings Theatre was re-opened in 2015, ATG’s message to the Black community in Flatbush was that the Kings Theatre would be a safe place for Black people and migrants of color — for the people who live in this neighborhood. Howard Panter, ATG’s founder, has on several occasions described Ambassador Theatre Group as a company "of national stature but with local sensitivity...the same as any other great city [like Manchester] in the world". To bring Hanan Ben Ari, a spokesperson for colonial violence, to a majority Black Caribbean community that has lived through over 600 years of racist subjugation and violence, land/resource theft, and apartheid is culturally insensitive and disrespectful to our community. Every time that ATG books a Zionist performer in our neighborhood, it becomes a direct negation of your projected goal and sentiment.

For these reasons, it is disturbing and offensive that your corporation is choosing to platform Hanan Ben Ari, an Israeli singer and staunch Zionist who blatantly advocates for the ethnic cleansing and extermination of the Palestinian people, on April 7th, 2024. From glorifying the IOF in the video for his song “Molodet,” to wishing for the “re-conquering” of the Gaza Strip with lyrics like, “You promised that someday we’ll come back here [Gaza]” in his song “Ima Im Hayiti,” Hanan Ben Ari’s lyrics unapologetically celebrate the current genocide and the demise of Arab, Muslim, and Middle Eastern people. We, as members of the Flatbush community and people of conscience, find his message of hate and genocide to be deplorable. We demand that ATG immediately cancel Ben Ari’s concert in our majority migrant of color neighborhood.

Since the events of October 7th, 2023, the state of Israel has been engaging in an acute and ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people whose lands it occupies. This genocide only continues to mount in brutality as the months go on. Over 30,000 people in the Gaza Strip have now been killed, according to Al Jazeera’s latest numbers, with over 70,000 wounded.”

The territory of the Lenape people before White Europeans invaders arrived was known to them as Lenapehoking, and it covered roughly the area between New York City and Philadelphia, including all of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and part of the state of Delaware.
