Jack Myers: Part 2

In Part Two of this two-part series Jack Myers, the Founder and Chairman of MediaVillage and the author of, “The Future of Men: Masculinity in the Twenty-First Century,” describes the transformation of the advertising business and movement away from the large legacy  agency model (i.e., once-dominant Madison Avenue companies) towards a fractured, small business, small influencer approach seeking and reaching very targeted audiences. The program delves into the genesis of Jack’s recent book, “The Future of Men” and the feedback he received while on tour with his previous book, “Hooked Up.”  He discloses that 60% of college graduates now are female, and identifies cultural problems he believes this presents for Society as a whole. They debate the relevance of other factors in young men’s lives, including the rise of the Alt Right movement.  Myers focuses on the appeal of the tribal nature of those kinds of movements to young men because of the sense of community they offer. Another factor in men’s development they discuss is the lack of a consistent and dominant depiction of good role models in popular culture such as on television and in movies. Jack also argues we should look to Scandinavian countries for leadership on having far more women in corporate and other leadership positions.
