Strap usage is often a contentious issue with some purists arguing that you should NEVER use straps because it bypasses the grip and they believe that if your grip can't support the weight without assistance then that means you shouldn't be lifting that weight. But that's a bit of a myopic perspective and, as with most things in life, the answer to this riddle lies somewhere in the middle.
What I really want to dive into today though is a much less discussed subset of strap usage. Not just general strap usage on slow strength pulling exercises such as deadlifts, rows, farmer's walks, etc., but rather strap usage during ballistic and explosive exercises where power development is the primary concern and primary goal. So things like power snatches, high pulls, dumbbell power snatches, hang power cleans, and even potentially kettlebell swings. The use of straps during these exercises confers a pretty major benefit towards that goal that is rarely every discussed or expounded upon.
