Step 1: Clean really well with a TSP based cleaner like Dixie Belle's White Lightning and then rinse with a clean wet rag to remove cleaning residue
Step 2: Fix any damaged area or missing veneer with a wood filler like Dixie Belle's Mud.
Step 3: Determine if you need a primer on your piece (is it a high gloss finish / then use a bonding primer like Slick Stick) (If your piece has a lot of knots, red or orange tones, then you may need a bleed through blocking primer like Dixie Belle BOSS)
Step 4: Paint your piece. When using chalk based paints, use a misting bottle with water to help your paint glide on smooth and you'll use less paint)
Step 5: For easy sealing of your paint, use a clear wax and buff within 15 to 20 minutes
