You are pregnant, and the thing that probably concerns you most is labor and delivery!
Some women say a contraction feels like a menstrual cramp: dull and achy. So, what is the big deal with labor? Let's talk about why labor is so painful and hard
A contraction moves like a wave from the top of your uterus to the bottom (your uterus is hard from top to bottom). This causes a crampy, achy, dull pain that can often be felt in your back along with pelvic pressure. As the contractions grow in intensity they will lead to a nauseating and overwhelming pain.
You might get a taste of contractions before true labor starts (which is a blessing!). These are practice contractions called Braxton-Hicks. The difference between practice contractions and true labor is the fact that true labor changes your cervix (the cervix opens and thins out for baby to be born). True labor contractions are frequent (less than five minutes a part) and painful!
You might be scared of the pain, but the pain has a purpose:
-Helping baby come into this world
-Bonding with baby
-Giving Mom the satisfaction of a big adventure
Women often do not prepare mentally and physically for labor, and this leads to anxiety in the labor process. It is so important to prepare for labor! This will be what leads you to the birth of your dreams and gives you a greater satisfaction in your birth memory.
