Have you ever heard of the term expat grief before? It’s the loss that you feel when you move away. Grief is often associated with the passing of a loved one, but with expat grief it could be even more than just that. It’s the grief you feel not being there for loved ones when they need you the most. Losing your connection to friends and family. Leaving your job. Saying goodbye to a life you once had. I know it’s okay to feel this grief, it’s just hard to conquer.

8 years later, I still go through stages of expat grief, even as an official “immigrant” to Germany. 💔

How many of you have gone through this as well?

On a more positive note, the passing of my grandmother encouraged me to dig deeper into my heritage and sign back online to MyHeritage where I did my DNA test (https://youtu.be/Zggfvgsje14) to add to my family tree, color correct and repair old photos of my ancestors and reach out to relatives that live close to Germany!
