HOW STEVEN GERRARD HAS REVIVED SCOTTISH FOOTBALL!
On Thursday 12th November Scotland beat Serbia on penalties to secure their place at the delayed Euro 2020, ending a barren 22-year absence from major tournaments.
In that time Scotland dropped as low as 88th in the world rankings, chopped through 6 different managers and endured 10 disappointing qualifying campaigns. A disillusioned Tartan Army turned away from Hampden Park, leaving its stands less than half full on 7 occasions since 2018. And in the last decade, this all took place against the backdrop of Rangers being banished to the Scottish 4th tier due to financial mismanagement. The Old Firm disappeared, handing dominance of the Premiership to Celtic.
But that could be about to change. Rangers have battled their way back, and the division is alive once more. David Marshall's heroics for the national side in Belgrade only added to the resurgent mood sweeping through the Scottish game. But why else can Scottish football no longer be ignored? Let’s take a look.
