Replacing the popular R129 series of cars the R230 model was the fifth generation of SL roadsters produced from 2002 until 2011. A number of different engines were offered with power outputs ranging from 245 BHP right up to 612 BHP.

The SL55 AMG, when introduced in 2002, was the most powerful road car built by Mercedes. Performance was blistering from its 476BHP Supercharged V8 engine, 0 – 62mph was 4.7 seconds and top speed was limited to 155mph, however a German car magazine reportedly removed the limiter and over 200mph was recorded.
Our car, a 2003 SL55 AMG has covered just 67,000 miles from new and has had 6 previous keepers, we have sold it twice previously so know the car well. Finished in classic Mercedes Brilliant Silver with Anthracite Grey leather the car has an extensive service history file with the service book showing 12 service stamps, 7 main dealer and 5 independent workshops. The history file also has records of the all important ABC suspension having been overhauled with a new pump and front struts.

Mercedes SL models have always been expensive when new and nicely equipped with features such as heated memory seats, climate control, Bi-Xenon lights and the Mercedes Comand Sat Nav system. Our car was also ordered with some nice factory options including Keyless Go, Panoramic Glass Hard Top, Multi Contour seats with heating and cooling, BOSE Premium Sound System with CD changer, electric folding mirrors, Parktronic and a windbreak is also fitted. A useful DAB radio and Bluetooth system have since been fitted and could be easily removed for the purist
Visually, this car is stunning and in a superb condition, especially bearing in mind it is a 20 year old flying machine. The Brilliant Silver paintwork gleams and the AMG multi spoke alloys are un kerbed and fitted with matching premium P Zero tyres. Inside the car, the perforated leather seats are virtually unmarked with only the very slightest of wear to the drivers bolster being much more commensurate of a car much younger.
On the road the car performs as expected of a well looked after car. It is fast, pulls hard, and has a great V8 soundtrack from the quad sports exhausts. The automatic transmission works well and the manual mode with paddleshift adds fun.
With the car are two sets of keys, the complete original leather handbook pack, factory Datacard and a folder of service documents with 15 MOT certificates.

Overall this is a very nice low mileage example of a model that has already earned future classic status. Quite rightly, prices for the best low mileage examples have increased in value recently but surely still look a bargain at the moment.
