Milkmaid Dress DIY | Puffed Sleeves Summer Dress Tutorial

Hey my beautiful friends,

I hope you are all doing well! 💫
This week I have a tutorial for you on how to make a milkmaid dress from scratch.

My fabric came pre-washed (it’s a viscose fabric and I used 2 meters), if your fabric isn’t pre-washed, you should do this before sewing. Otherwise, your dress could shrink during the first wash!

As promised, here are some more details on how I measured everything:

The skirt:
The width of your skirt should be a bit bigger than your hip circumference, since your skirt consists of two panels, divide this number by 2 and add seam allowance
Since I wanted to avoid fabric bulking where I attached my skirt to my top, I made the skirt on the waist area a bit smaller
Therefore, I took the length of my top piece (bust circumference x 1.5) minus the width of my skirt. This I divided by 4. Now you know how much you can take your skirt panels in on each side. But be careful: make sure that you will be able to put your dress over your head in the end. Otherwise, you’ll have to sew in a zipper!

The elastics (0.5cm):
Just a general side note: The pieces of elastic you want to use should always fit you snugly. Don’t make them too lose
This is optional, but if your waist is significantly smaller than your bust area, I’d recommend cutting elastics of two lengths - which will fit you snug around your bust area and some that fit you snug around your waist
Between each elastic, I left a space of one Centimeter
