Part 1 of the series about the life and rule of the Eastern Roman general and Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas.
Nikephoros Phokas was an Eastern Roman General who scored countless impressive victories on the battlefield and eventually became the Emperor. This series tells the story of his life, military career and rule. Part 1 tells about the influences that he received growing up. It the delves into the details of his military organization and chronicles the battle that he and his generals fought against the Hamdanid Emir of Aleppo Sayf Al-Dawls. It concludes with a retelling of his Cretan campaign.
