Despite one of the most difficult years in recent memory for Namibia's livestock industry, Meatco has reported a profit and says its turnaround strategy is beginning to bear fruit.

The corporation has released its audited financial statements ahead of its Annual General Meeting, showing that although cattle throughput fell dramatically due to drought and national herd rebuilding, the company strengthened its balance sheet, increased its cash reserves and remained profitable.

So, what does this mean for producers, for Namibia's beef export industry, and for the future of one of the country's most important agricultural businesses?
