the patterns of the west

ankara, kente, bogolanfini
we west africans are well recognised for our fashionista fabric chic so I jus had to do a lil tribute to them for my black history month project
here's a wee synopsis:

ankara - a wax fabric predominantly used in Nigeria, with bold and vibrant patterns
aso ebi - made out of ankara and worn as a sort of 'uniform' at parties and big events

kente - a fabric type predominantly used in Ghana, with bold geometric patterns
adinkra - the symbols and patterns on the fabric, all which have their own meaning

bogolanfini - a fabric from Mali which is painted with various dyes such as fermented mud (hence the name mudcloth), used for protection and status (symbols also have different meanings

song: ara ma nfe simi - king sunny adé (THE NAIJA KING!!)
