I don't know if the 70s is modern to us now but, considering this is a 50s design, it has been modernized a bit. One thing I truly love about The Baby's style is that he doesn't sees the potential of a pattern or picture beyond what's on the page. Because I was given similar freedom as a kid with choosing my wardrobe I have this skill as an adult. It's very fun to see what a three year old does when given the ability to see create an outfit for themselves.
