DIY Graduated filter for photography for FREE!
This is a quick video where we learn how to do your own DIY graduated filter for landscape (or any other kind of photography).
If you find yourself in the need to use a graduated filter, but do not have one, or maybe forgot it at home (as it happened to me!), you can set a long exposure where you expose for the darkest part (the foreground, in this case) and cover the brightest area with a card (or any other dark material you may have at a hand, even a t-shirt!). Then, start taking the photo and uncover the bright part (the sky in this case) slowly, and you will get a seamless graduated filter!
To calculate the exposure, take some test shots where you get the foreground on one hand, and the background on the other. Then see how long each of them take.
In this case, I used ISO 100, 30 seconds exposure for the foreground, and uncovered the sky when there were 8 seconds left. As you can see, this simple trick made it easy to get it perfect!
