I’ve already added a cab divider blackout curtain to my van, see part 5 for that, but I wanted some window covers to help reduce condensation on the windows when we sleep in the van and to reflect sun out of the van to keep it cool on hot days.

I began by making templates of the windows, using paper I had to hand and then sticking it together and cutting it to shape.

I could then cut my covers out of thermal bubble wrap insulation, check the fit back in the van and then I decided to double the layers of foil insulation up, before sticking leftover carpet from the van build to one side so it matched my interior.

I used high temperature contact adhesive as these would likely be exposed to hot conditions.

Finally, I stuck on a fabric edge - as I don’t own a sewing machine - to neaten them up and could look at how to attach them to the windows.

Magnets, velcro and loops were all options but I went for suction cups with these useful handles, which create a nice air gap between the covers and windows.

They turned out great and have proved really handy since I made them!
