HOW MUCH Did My Van Build COST? | Tiny Camper Van Conversion COST BREAKDOWN

In this video, I'll be going through cost breakdown of my recent Nissan NV200 van conversion. Having recently released a start-to-finish time lapse film of the van build, I thought it might be interesting to see how much I’ve spent on the conversion, and this is something that up until this video I didn’t even know, and I was quite surprised by the amount…

So up front I want to say that my aim for the van build was to do it as cheaply as possible, but without sacrificing on quality. In other words, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, but wanted to have a really nice looking van at the end of it, easy right?! I undertook all of the work myself and was able to spend a lot of time getting it how I wanted it, albeit over the course of about a year. I’ll let you judge whether I achieved the quality I was after, but I feel very pleased with the outcome.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that I don’t live in the van, and use it as a day van - sleeping in it around 30 nights a year, so I’ve tailored the build towards my needs.

I’m putting the figure from each section in the running total so we can see how it adds up as I go along.

I’ve tried really hard to recall everything that went into the build, so I apologise in advance if I’ve missed anything.

The last thing to note is I’ve rounded my numbers to the nearest pound just to make it a bit easier to look at.

The van costing covers all aspects of the van build;

- Insulating the van
- Carpeting the van and doors
- Making van door pockets
- Plywood lining and carpeting the ceiling
- Covering the plywood floor with vinyl
- Building the van bed
- Adding under bed can storage
- Installing a blackout curtain
- Building a wheel arch storage box
- Building a folding table storage side unit
- Building a cupboard behind the driver's seat
- Installing roof bars
- Van electronics (lighting, power, refrigeration)
- Making thermal blackout window covers
Adding essential can accessories: the ceiling net, tarp for the back door, folding step, water bottle, wind deflectors and coat hooks.

If you made it to then end of the video then you'll see I’m really happy with the final figure, and building the van out over the course of a year has definitely helped spread the cost.

is it cheap, or did I spend too much? I’d love to know what you think, so do leave a comment below.

DISCLAIMER: In this video, I am in no way stating that this is the proper way to undertake the conversion of a van, however after research and experience using the van, I believe this to be the way that is best suited to my van and the way I intend to use it.
