Arcanum Sanctum - Pax (Full EP)

Pax is the new EP from the Russian band Arcanum Sanctum, released on January 16, 2026 (quite recent, considering it's the 18th!). It's a short work, with 4 tracks, that continues the band's signature sound: a modern, technical, and atmospheric melodic death metal, heavily influenced by the aesthetics of Soviet science fiction—something that has already marked previous albums like Ad Astra.

Recorded at AS Headquarters Studio, mixed at Slaughtered Studio, and mastered by the legendary Dan Swanö (Unisound), the EP maintains the high production quality that the band usually delivers. The title "Pax" (peace, in Latin) is ironic and reflective at the same time. According to guitarist Vadim Nalivaiko, the EP is a reflection on what humanity could become—and perhaps already is becoming—seen through the lens of Soviet sci-fi and the infinite possibilities of space. There's a blend of cosmic optimism with existential and dystopian questioning, very much in the style of classic works by authors like the Strugatsky brothers, Lem, or Tarkovsky.

It's a natural continuation of the journey begun in Ad Astra (2020) and the recent single Wake Up (2025), but with a more introspective and philosophical tone. Ideal for those who enjoy melodic death metal with a strong concept, intelligent lyrics, and a "dark outer space" vibe. If you haven't heard it yet, it's well worth diving into this Russian sci-fi odyssey!
