An amateur mechanic modifies a vintage Briggs & Stratton flathead small engine by replacing the stock muffler with an improvised iron pipe manifold and a standard plumbing gate valve. Restricting the exhaust gas velocity creates immense backpressure within the combustion chamber, altering the engine's volumetric efficiency and drastically slowing its idle cycle.

While the high-restriction setup temporarily mimics the distinct, low-frequency rhythmic exhaust note of a V-twin motorcycle, standard plumbing components lack the thermal tolerance required for internal combustion applications. Prolonged operation causes the residential-grade sealing gaskets to rapidly degrade and melt under extreme exhaust temperatures, resulting in severe exhaust leaks and eventual mechanical failure.
