Nicknamed the 'Kings of Birds,' eagles are iconic animals that have often been used symbolically to represent power, freedom, and strength by various empires in the past and as national symbols by several nations. Eagles are particularly famous for their excellent eyesight, which enables them to detect prey up to 2 miles away (that's over 3 km)!

Besides their unparalleled sense of vision, the eagle's ferocious attack strategy and exceptional hunting skills are some of the reasons why it has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782. Today, we will delve into everything that makes the eagle the king of all birds. Let's start by examining the impressive size and weight of this fascinating and phenomenal animal.

The size and weight of an eagle depend on its species, as there is a considerable variation among them. However, let's consider the extreme cases, a very small and a very large eagle. The Little Eagle, as its name implies, is one of the smallest eagle species and measures between 45 and 55 centimeters (or 17 to 21.5 inches) in length, roughly the size of a Peregrine Falcon.

On the other hand, there are also several contenders for the title of the largest eagle species. Steller's Sea Eagles for example, which measure usually between 90 and 105 centimeters (or 36 to 42 inches) in body length alone, are one of the largest eagle species. They can reach a wingspan of slightly over 8 feet (or about 2.5 meters).

This makes the eagle one of the largest predatory birds alive! When it comes to weight, there are also variations among the more than 60 identified species. The Little Eagle, for instance, usually weighs around 2 pounds (a bit less than a kilogram). In contrast, the heaviest eagles are the Steller's Sea Eagle and the Harpy Eagle, both of which can weigh as much as 20 pounds or 9 kilograms! Now that we have examined their size and weight, let's explore where eagles can be found.

Eagles can be found all across the world. As mentioned earlier, there are over 60 species of eagles, so the location where you will find an eagle depends on the specific species you are looking for. Of the identified eagle species, most are found in Africa and Eurasia, while the remaining species can be found in Australia, Central, North, and South America.

For example, the Little Eagle is native to Australia. Some of the most well-known eagle species include the Steller's Eagle, native to Northeastern Asia; the Bald Eagle, found in North America, especially the United States; the Harpy Eagle, commonly found in Mexico, Central, and South America; and the Golden Eagle, present in Asia, Europe, Northern Africa, and Northern America.

All species of eagles can be classified into four major groups: Booted Eagles, Sea Eagles, Snake Eagles, and Giant Forest Eagles. In the countries where they can be found, eagles inhabit various habitats ranging from open grasslands to coastal waters.
