Back in 2014 before the Scottish Indepdence Referendum Nicola Sturgeon current First Minister of Scotland predicted that if the people of Scotland voted to remain in the UK union there was a real risk that when a referdum on UK EU membership came up Scotland could be pulled out of the European Union against its will. This was dismissed at the time by Alister Carmichael Liberal Democrat MP as "scaremongering".
