Is it okay to go bowling while pregnant?
When you're pregnant it can be kind of confusing to know what activities are safe and what aren't. Sometimes women just get freaked out and try to avoid everything. That probably definitely increases your chances of keeping you and your baby safe but there are still some activities that are totally appropriate and fine. You mentioned specifically bowling. Bowling in and of itself should be safe. You just want to make sure that you try your hardest not to slip and fall. You don't want anything to come in contact with your abdomen and so hopefully no one is throwing a bowling ball at you but that would be the biggest concern and I would say falling on your back and hurting your belly. Generally speaking it's okay to do activities that aren't going to increase your chances of falling or anything that is going to increase chances of having abdominal trauma. Contact sports are definitely something you want to avoid. We actually saw a patient once who came in because she was the spectator at a dodgeball extravaganza. She thought just because she was a spectator her chances of getting hurt weren't very great but of course we know there are lots of balls flying around and one actually did hit her in the belly. Just be cognizant of things like that. A lot of pregnant women trip and fall up the stairs. You can't protect yourself always from just walking up the stairs. Just avoid things that you know are probably going to increase your risk of falling are having abdominal trauma. Horseback riding is usually mentioned specifically by doctors, also things like skiing, water-skiing, kneeboarding, all those sorts of things are definitely things to avoid. I think you're probably okay with bowling. If you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.
