Duramax Back From The Dead (Paint Correction & Ceramic Coating)

In this video I am paint correction, and ceramic coating a 13 year old Duramax with 200,000. Because of the age and miles on this truck, the paint is really in rough shape. This is a real world daily driven truck and the customer that owns this Duramax is looking to bring the truck back to a "like new" condition. Almost no dents on this truck, and only a few rust bubbles showing. This truck is a perfect candidate for a multistep paint correction. I use the term "multistep" because there were many different buffing tools, pads, sandpaper, compounds and polishes to get this paint looking respectable before locking it in with a Ceramic Coating. Most consumers are generally turned away form the higher prices of these multistep paint corrections that are recommended for these high milage vehicles. This customer purchased this truck for an excellent price and has plans to make several upgrades over the next year.

The multistep correction, started with spot sanding some of the problem areas, and removal of the badges. After that I use a rotary buffer and a wool pad to level the visual paint defects. Second step is following behind with a Long Throw DA polisher and a microfiber pad to remove the holograms from the wool pad. Even after the second step, these GM paints are generally on the softer side, so there is still a bit of haze left behind after the second step. I then move on to third polishing step to refine the paint with a foam pad and a fine polish. This step is vital to the entire process, especially when ceramic coating is introduced. If the paint has any haze left behind from the buffing process, the ceramic coating once installed with highlight these areas making it look out of balance and fuzzy. This is part of the reason for the higher costs associated with multistep corrections on high milage vehicles.

I am always trying to educate my clients about the importance of vehicle care. Especially when purchasing a new vehicle right from the dealership. Don't be fooled into a fast $1,000 paint protection add on that the dealer try to push on you. Your $1,000 will go much further in the hands of a dedicated ceramic coating installer like myself. In most cases new car prep requires much less time to get the paint ready for the ceramic coating. There are occasions especially when dealing with softer black paint, but generally, when the car is new, this is the best time to have your vehicle ceramic coated. New car ceramic coatings will cost you less and keep your vehicle looking its very best for many years to come.

Special thanks to Adam McCall for helping me capture some of the work that went into this multi day, multistep paint correction and ceramic coating. I am looking forward to the next project where I will be polishing and ceramic coating a new vehicle. Stay tuned for that video coming soon.
