Strategic Optimization of the Underground Mine Plan

The Talk
Truly optimizing an Underground Mine Plan is a complicated and difficult process. However, if conducted well, the increase in value can be tremendous. Uneconomic projects may become economic. Marginal mines could become lucrative. The overarching strategy of optimizing an Underground Mine Plan will be explored, with a discussion of the steps, tools and techniques utilized in achieving the goal of maximizing value.

The Speakers
Chris Johnson is the President & Principal Mining Engineer of Underground Mining Solutions. He graduated from the Western Australian School of Mines in 1995. He is a registered P.E. in the state of Nevada and a Registered Member of the SME. Additionally, he is a Fellow and Chartered Profession Member of the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. Chris is a Mining Engineer with a wide & various range of operating, management and technical experience in excess of 20 years, predominantly in underground mining. More recently, Chris has applied his experience to cost modeling & mining project due diligence.

Henry Wang is currently a mining engineer working for Newmont Goldcorp at the Denver office.He earned his Ph.D. in mining engineering from Penn State University in 2007, in addition to two master's degrees and one bachelor’s degree. He is a registered P.E in the state of Nevada after working four years in Elko. Henry has a wide range of expertise, including rock mechanics, numerical modeling, mine planning, and schedule optimization.
