Debate over whether complimenting women’s appearance is no longer appropriate

Melbourne journalist Christopher Bantick has been copping significant backlash after complaining that men can no longer compliment women on their appearance without being seen as creepy.

Sky News host Erin Molan discussed whether or not complimenting a woman on her appearance is no longer appropriate with ACT Opposition Leader Elizabeth Lee and Kulture Break’s Founder Francis Owusu.

“I would say that it really depends on the context and the relationship that you have with a person,” Ms Lee told Sky News host Erin Molan.

“I mean, I’ve got close friends who are male, who I have no qualms about hearing compliments. In fact, I would sort of be saying, 'hello, have you not seen my new outfit today?'

“But obviously if it is somebody that I don’t know, if I’m out on the hustings and someone random comments on my appearance, then yes, I do find that very off-putting.”
