I talk about relaxation for sprinting a lot. It's the main subject of this channel because it's so important to have that relaxation as a sprinter or athlete because any tightness and tension will cripple speed development. Relaxation allows the body's ability to utilise power and speed whereas tension, stress and anxiety robs you of that ability. This means a lot of a sprinter's training starts before they even set foot on the track or the gym. The foundation of your full sprinting capabilties doesn't start at training your body physically, it starts with you how you are and how you feel. How you feel and how you think is the foundation for human performance. "Relaxation is who you are, Tension is where you want to be." (chinese proverb). So learning the art of relaxation (yes, it is a skill now believe it or not) is paramount for you to run faster. It allows you to apply more force to the ground when you sprint. It allows you more range of movement which means more flexibility. It allows you to have more endurance as it conserves energy for later on in the race. It allows muscles to work together - for agonists and antagonists to alternate activation for quicker transfer of forces. It allows for more natural technique. It allows you to enjoy your event more which can have a big benefits in dealing with mental health issues today. And last but definitely not least, it prevents injury as chronic stress has been linked with higher injury rate. But there is a crucial question you need to ask yourself.
How do I know if I 'm relaxed while sprinting? The thing is you need to experience relaxation so you can know what it actually is. And to make sure you are not kidding yourself. Problem is if you are like the rest of the world's population then you don't know how it feels. It's totally alien to you. Due to technology and the constant assault of the mainstream and social media on our senses, your true relaxed state has been drowned out for a long time. We are constantly in a fight. flight or freeze state as our body reacts to seemingly "life threatening" challenges from getting out of bed in the morning to going to bed and maybe while we sleep as well. You need to be able to reclaim relaxation to realise your sprinting potential and that elusive flow state.

So this video gives you the simple cues that sign post your relaxation during sprint training and also how to bring it in almost instantly when you notice this. It takes discipline, patience and persistence to do this but it is worthwhile
